Seeding Built Around Clay, Bluffs and Lake Weather

Hydroseeding Cleveland sprays new lawns, stabilizes slopes and ravine edges, puts up silt fence and sediment controls, and does the grading and topsoil work that has to happen before any of it. We work for homeowners, home builders, site contractors and property managers in Cleveland and the towns around it.

The ground here sets the rules. Much of Northeast Ohio's upland soil formed in glacial till, and the USDA's description of the Mahoning series, a soil that covers more than 450,000 acres across this region, reads like a list of what goes wrong with a new lawn: somewhat poorly drained, a silty clay subsoil, and a perched water table that can sit 6 to 12 inches below the surface from October through June in most years. Cleveland itself is built on bluffs that rise from 569 feet at the lake to 791 feet at Hopkins Airport, cut by the Cuyahoga River, Big Creek and Euclid Creek. Rain and runoff move fast on that kind of ground.

So we plan every job around three questions: where will the water go, what is the soil under the seed, and how much time is left in the season before frost and lake-effect snow.

Our approach on a Cleveland job

  • No number until we have stood on the ground: we point out the wet spots, compacted fill and slopes that need more than seed
  • Estimates list grading, topsoil, seed mix, mulch type and any blankets or silt fence as separate lines
  • Seed mixes are chosen for sun, shade and use, not one bag for every yard
  • Steep banks get bonded mulch or blankets instead of a light spray
  • On builder and commercial sites we follow the erosion and sediment control plan the engineer and the city approved
  • You get written watering and mowing instructions the day we spray

We do not put a price on a job we have not seen. Call (216) 820-9857 or fill in the estimate form, and we will book a walk-through of the property.
