Medina: Old Town, Two River Branches
Hydroseeding in Medina covers a mix of 19th-century neighborhoods and newer lots on the edge of town. The city sits around 1,066 feet, about 33 miles south of Cleveland, and the north branch of the Rocky River joins the west branch inside Medina. Water from much of this area eventually heads north toward Lake Erie through Olmsted Falls.
Around the historic square
Much of Medina Square was rebuilt after an 1870 fire that destroyed 45 buildings, and it is now a nine-block historic district around Uptown Park. Older homes near the square tend to have mature trees, small lawns, settled grades and decades of foot traffic. Most need lawn repair and overseeding rather than a full new lawn: we fix low spots with topsoil, loosen compacted areas and spray seed so it lands evenly under and around the trees.
Stone country
By 1855, Medina's quarries were producing more than $200,000 worth of stone a year. Buried stone and old fill are not unusual in older parts of town. If we hit rock while preparing a seedbed, we rake it out and bring in topsoil rather than seeding over it.
Rail-trails and long strips
Many of Medina's former rail lines have been turned into hiking and biking trails. Homes that back onto them often have long, narrow strips of disturbed ground after fence or drainage work. Hydro seeding is ideal for those because the hose reaches where a tractor cannot.
Near the river branches
Lots close to either Rocky River branch can see water moving fast in a storm. Swales and banks there get straw blankets or a bonded fiber matrix, and silt fence goes up on the river side while soil is bare.
Newer homes outside the core
On new construction lots we handle yard grading, topsoil and hydroseeding together so the lawn goes in on a proper grade.

Medina Questions
Can you overseed an older lawn near the square without tearing it up?
Yes. We aerate or slice, top-dress thin spots and spray seed over the existing turf.
We keep hitting stones while digging. Will that affect a new lawn?
Stones near the surface cause thin, dry patches. We remove what we can and add topsoil before seeding.
My yard backs onto a trail. Can your truck reach it?
Usually the hose can run from the street or driveway, so no equipment crosses the lawn.
Do you put erosion control on lots near the Rocky River branches?
Yes, sized to the slope and how close the water is.
