Strongsville Seeding Between the River and the Interchange
Hydroseeding in Strongsville means working two sharply different landscapes. One is the valley of the east branch of the Rocky River, which enters the city from North Royalton and leaves into Berea, with Valley Parkway following its northwest course. The other is the commercial land around the point where Interstate 71 meets the Ohio Turnpike.
Commercial and construction seeding
The Strongsville Business & Technology Park is described as the largest industrial park in Northeast Ohio. Building pads, detention basins and long road shoulders all need fast cover once grading stops. For those sites we spray a seed and hydromulch mix sized to the slope, and we set silt fence along the downhill edge before final grade so sediment control is in place before the first storm.
Homes near Mill Stream Run Reservation
Cleveland Metroparks' Mill Stream Run Reservation runs along the river through town, with Bonnie Park, Ranger Lake and two small ponds. Yards that back onto the reservation often slope toward the valley. On those lots we keep regrading light, rebuild topsoil only where it is thin, and put an erosion control blanket on any bank that feeds toward the parkland.
A town that grew fast
Strongsville went from 8,504 people in 1960 to 43,858 in 2000. Lawns from those decades are now old enough that many need lawn renovation more than new seed: core aeration, a topsoil top-dress where the grade has sunk, then overseeding by hydroseed so the new grass fills in with the old.
The old mill site
John Stoughton Strong had the first mill built on the Rocky River in 1820, and its dam and foundation still exist in Bonnie Park. It is a reminder that this river has been worked for two centuries; banks near old structures can be uneven, and we look at drainage before we spray anything.

Strongsville Questions
Do you hydroseed commercial pads and detention basins in Strongsville?
Yes. Builder and commercial seeding is a large part of the work around the business park and the I-71 corridor.
My backyard slopes down to the Metroparks. Is that a problem?
Not for hydroseeding, but it does call for a heavier mulch and sometimes a blanket on the steepest part so soil does not move toward the river.
My 1980s lawn is thin and bumpy. New lawn or renovation?
Often renovation: aerate, top-dress low spots with topsoil, then overseed. If more than half the lawn is weeds, a full new lawn installation may be cheaper in the long run.
When should silt fence go in on a building lot?
Before the main grading, along the downhill edge, so it catches soil from day one rather than after the first rain.
